A small reason to smile :)

A small reason to smile

Aware of the gift,  Dad was bringing that night
Excited was the child, thinking he will guess it right
He would now obey everything, complete his homework in a while
Now that he had a small reason to smile.

Passing the ball to kids playing in scorching heat
Wonderful game he thought, it had been his passion indeed
The soldier continued, ready to march another mile
Now that he had a small reason to smile.

Abound was the news, since a couple of days
Monsoon will be big this year, lesser will be the sun rays
The farmer continued working hard, making his land fertile
Now that he had a small reason to smile.

Feeling bored of the files, the clerk glanced around
He saw the comic strip in the paper and read what he had found
Filled with the daily dose of laughter, he continued to the next file
Now that he had a small reason to smile.

After cleaning up the house, feeling a bit tired
She came across the old photo-album, pictures of her kids neatly wired
Feeling rejuvenated, she continued doing her chores in a while
Now that she had a small reason to smile.

Prospect of her grandson coming home this week
Whom the woman hadn’t seen, her spirits began to peak
She started making sweets now, feeling worthwhile
Now that she had a small reason to smile.

Bald, struggling to walk, she felt miserable and was in pain
But her therapy was ending , a patch of hair on her head grew again
She would now fight; walk, or even run a mile
Now that she had a small reason to smile.

Serving tea to the customers now and then, the child felt bored
Just then the radio started the song he had so adored
Filled with zeal, he started working in a while
Now that he had a small reason to smile.

After all, we know that happiness is always around
It is in feelings, not in dollar and pound
If we really want to, in a world we think hostile,
We will always find a small reason to smile.

The Growing Up Paradox

The Growing Up Paradox

Happy New Year 2014 !!! We sure did welcome the new year with crackers, sweets and lots of enthusiasm. We hope that we pick up good things from last year, forget the bad ones and expect that THIS YEAR at last , we will complete our previous left-up resolutions. We lose interest in some resolutions, continue fighting for some and make some new ones every year. This year I have also made a resolution: TO GROW UP.

"Growing Up" has always been a big thing for me. Elders seem to like the idea very much. It comes in different forms, different times and always has something new associated to it. It is some kind of hypothetical ritual, that everyone is expected to perform so that they get equipped to deal with the real world. If you dare not do it in parent’s eyes, every fault of yours is linked to it. So you see, how important it is to grow up ( or at least convince people so :)  ). If only it was a simple thing to do, we would have done it and not make a big deal out of it.

Growing up has different definitions associated to it. Acting maturely ( no bachpaana ) , being responsible , becoming serious about things and realizing bigger picture are some of it. Though I have mentioned only a couple, these cover a lot of ground based on human behavior. The problem here is it rationally opposes things we truly want to do ( on ground of growing up and finally figuring out what life is ) and has the idea of always having less fun than you want. I agree everyone has different perspective but again they can state so on their own blog :P

Why is it that on mention of old friends all that we remember is the useless things we do that make us laugh like anything? or why is it that overachieving persons/scientists have childish traits ? Why is it that great people end up saying that childhood as their best time or keeping the child in you is the most important thing?

To quote a few

Every child is an artist. The problem is staying one when you grow up. -- Picasso

Grown-ups are complicated creatures, full of quirks and secrets. -- Roald Dahl

The most difficult thing about being an adult is to act like one. -- Anonymous

Lahanpan dega deva ( Maybe God give me childhood ) -- Sant Tukaram

My favorite one is one particular strip of Calvin and Hobbes.

( To Calvin, Hobbes is a live anthropomorphic tiger; all the other characters see him as an inanimate stuffed toy.)

I think you can see my confusion now.

This is what I like to call "The Growing Up Paradox".

What Are You Doing Right Now ?

What Are You Doing Right Now ?

What are you doing right now ?

Will you do it if I said its result wont matter?

Close your eyes and think of all you wanted to be

Of all times you thought you could make it and see.

Of all the silent conversations you had with yourselves

Of all the lies you told yourselves

Of all the things you would rather not do

Of the precious time you get what you want to do

What if your thoughts were not stupid

What if they were something future generations would praise about

What if you were to die tomorrow

Without actually doing what you are destined to do

What if your painting got sold for millions

What if people cherished your song

What if every child read the story you wrote

What if everyone cared what you care about.

So,I have got a question for you

After going through all this , answer somehow

Seems a silly one ,I know you know it

What are you doing right now ?
